When looking for competitive athletes we are looking for the following:
- Work ethic in class. Can they work independently and follow directions?
- Desire to compete. Some kids want to be in the gym and have fun, but not be in competitions.
- Gym Etiquette. Rules need to be followed, and turns need to be taken.
- Great team attitude. Athletes need to build each other up in class.
- Speak gymnastics terminology. They need to understand the vocabulary being used by the coach when referring to drills and when being given feedback.
- Coachable. Athletes need to be able to take feedback from a coach, and implement it in their practice.
- Determined. Athletes need to want to succeed and move on. They need to push themselves to master skills. They cannot be frustrated by the repetitiveness of the drills.
**Skill set is not the determining factor for competitive athletes. Work ethic and attitude are. Athletes can struggle with skills but if they are determined, they can compete**
